The Art of Mono Clay Printing
In addition to plein air oils, Thomas enjoys working in a relatively unknown method called Mono Clay Printing. Working on a leather hard slab of clay, the artist applies a medium consisting of pure pigment, kaolin and water. The colors and patterns are built up in layers until the artist is satisfied with the piece. A Mono Clay Print is then pulled by hand producing an original, archival artwork which may be framed under glass or stretched onto canvas stretchers. Thomas learned this method from it's originator, an artist named Mitch Lyons of New London, PA.
The method lends itself well to abstraction, however, Thomas has used it to create a series of trees. She has won numerous awards with her Mono Clay Prints.
